Before I dive into this blog post about career goals, I'll say this one thing...
There was a time when the last thing on my mind was finishing the year strong. The year I lost my dad AND was laid off from my favorite employer because of an acquisition was the toughest year of my life. Finishing the year strong wasn't even on my mind. I just needed to finish the year breathing.
PLEASE allow yourself to opt out of this one if you need to. This year has been brutal for many and I need us to be okay with checking out and simply getting through what's left of it.
For everyone else, let's go!
As the year winds down, it's time to reflect on your journey, your accomplishments, and your career goals. If you're anything like many of us goal-driven and ambitious moms, you set out at the beginning of the year with aspirations and ambitions. Now, it's your chance to evaluate where you stand, get re-energized, and make that final push toward your goals.
Let's chat for a moment about the three essential aspects you should consider during this year-end push and how having an accountability partner can make all the difference.
Reflect on Your Journey: Where Are You Now?
Before you start strategizing for your career goals, I'd like you to grab a pen and paper and take a moment to look back. Consider what you've achieved so far this year.
- What were your wins?
- What were your challenges?
Being honest with yourself is crucial at this stage. Acknowledge what you've done AND what you haven't.
Remember, self-awareness is the first step to improvement.
Setting REALISTIC Year-End Goals
The year-end push can be an intense period, especially if you have ambitious career goals. To set yourself up for success, I'd like you to focus on setting REALISTIC, ACHIEVABLE goals for the remaining weeks.
Remember, it's not about overloading yourself; it's about making meaningful progress. What can you realistically accomplish by the end of the year?
Break it down into manageable steps on paper. Post the note somewhere visible to you at home.
What's Your Motivation?
Your motivation is your driving force.
- Why do you want to achieve your career goals?
- What impact will it have on your life and your family?
Identifying your motivation can keep you focused and determined, especially during the year-end push. Is it a better life, more time with your loved ones, or achieving your fullest potential? Keep this motivation front and center in your mind.
The Power of Accountability Partners
As ambitious professionals, we often believe we can go it alone. I've tried that approach and it has sometimes worked for a brief period of time.
Say it with me - EVEN THE BEST NEED SUPPORT. As a matter of fact, becoming THE BEST isn't a solo sport.
This is where an accountability partner comes into play. It's that person who stands by your side, offering honest feedback, unwavering support, and a hearty dose of motivation when you start to question your ability.
They're your personal cheerleader and they're there to ensure you stay on track.
Having an accountability partner can significantly increase your progress. They can hold you to your commitments, celebrate your successes, and provide an extra push when you need it. Together, you'll navigate the year-end push with confidence.
