In a recent episode of the Virtual Six-Figure Mom Podcast, we were joined by Amanda Miller Littlejohn, a writer, PR strategist, personal branding coach, and rockstar mother of three amazing children. She is passionate about helping people identify what lights them up, encourages them to follow their passions, and really live their best life. We talked about how motherhood is different with each child, how her kids have been her greatest teachers, and how they serve as a reminder that she is not alone in her journey as an entrepreneur.
She also shared how her children have a front row seat to her building her legacy and how that is confidence-building for them. She wants to model for them that they have options in life and that they can build and create with their individual talents. Amanda is confident that they will be able to contribute to society in meaningful ways and that they will always have the skills to generate income.
Some of the key themes we focused on during our conversation revolved around balance, flexibility, and creativity as a mom. I believe it's important to dive a little deeper into that space and discuss each area specifically as it relates to child development.
A few initial thoughts:
1. Model what you want your children to do – be an entrepreneur, be independent, be creative, be flexible, have a side hustle, etc.
2. Talk to your children about your business – let them know what you're doing, why you're doing it, and how it benefits your family.
3. Be proud of your accomplishments – let your children see you celebrate your successes.
Now let's dive a little deeper into each...
1. Model what you want your children to do – be an entrepreneur, be independent, be creative, be flexible, have a side hustle, etc.
Model what you want your children to do by being an entrepreneur, being independent, being creative, having a side hustle, etc. Show them that they have options and that they can build something they are proud of. Teach them how to package their genius in different ways and be confident that they can always turn their skills into income.
In addition, model a work ethic for your children. Show them that you are willing to work hard to achieve your goals. Let them see you hustle and grind to make things happen. This will teach them the value of hard work and how to persevere when times are tough.
2. Talk to your children about your business – let them know what you're doing, why you're doing it, and how it benefits your family.
It's important to talk to your children about your business and let them know what you're doing, why you're doing it, and how it benefits your family. This will help them to understand your work and feel proud of your accomplishments. It's also a good opportunity to teach them about entrepreneurship and the different ways that people can earn a living.
It's also important to involve your children in your business whenever possible. This will give them a sense of ownership and responsibility, and help them to understand the importance of what you're doing. If you have the time and resources, you could even start a business together as a family. There are many benefits to involving your children in your business. Not only will they learn valuable life lessons, but you'll also have the opportunity to bond and create memories together. So don't hesitate to involve your kids in your entrepreneurial pursuits - it could be a great experience for all of you.
3. Be proud of your accomplishments – let your children see you celebrate your successes.
My daughters are my biggest cheerleaders and they know just how proud I am of all that I have accomplished. They see me celebrate my wins and learn valuable lessons from my not-so-winning moments.
It's important to model the behavior you want to see in your children, talk to them about your business, and be proud of your accomplishments. These are all important steps in raising entrepreneurial children.
